Norwich goalkeeping legends to open new 4G pitch
Four faces from Norwich City’s past will be on hand to provide free goalkeeping training at the opening of a new 4 th generation pitch in Lowestoft on June 1.
Norwich legend Bryan Gunn, along with former goalkeepers Andy Marshall and Paul Crichton and former Canaries goalkeeping coach Malcolm Webster, will be on hand to help shape the shot-stoppers of tomorrow in a free session run by Sells Goalkeeping Academy.
The coaching session will take between 4pm and 6pm on the new 4G pitch at Barnard’s Meadow, Barnard’s Way in Lowestoft. Goalkeepers of both sexes are welcome, with all players split into three age-groups - 8-11, 12-15 and 16 upwards.
The event will mark one of the first Sells
Goalkeeping Academy courses in the UK, with a number of centres set to roll
out across the country during 2010.
Supported by Sells, a global leader in goalkeeper apparel, the Sells Goalkeeping Academy is the brainchild of Premiership goalkeeper Andy Marshall, who made 219 appearances for Norwich City in a seven-year spell at Carrow Road.
A former England Under 21 international and FA Cup finalist, Andy believes that the Academy could play a real role in helping to identify and encourage the next generation of goalkeeping talent in England.
He said: “The role of the goalkeeper is a specialist one and having the correct coaching from an early age is vitally important.
“There is a lot talk in the media about how English goalkeepers aren’t coming through the system and how this could potentially impact the future success of the England team.
“Sells Goalkeeping Academy is unique in that it offers coaching from the best in the business, who have tasted success often as both players and coaches.
“We are passionate about getting people of all ages involved in goalkeeping – it’s a great way of keeping fit, having fun and more importantly, if you work hard you never know what the future may hold for you.”
